Changes as of 2012

The Prohibited List 2012 was published by WADA after receiving the proposals and comments of all the WADA code organizations. The updated list entered into force on January 1st 2012. It contains some new features:

Beta-2-agonists (for example, asthma medicine)

From 2012, formoterol (a beta-2 agonist for inhalation treatment of asthma) in therapeutic doses (up to 36 micrograms / day) is allowed. If the limit in urine exceeds 30 ng / mL at doping control, this is considered as an Adverse Analytical Finding unless the Athlete proves, through a controlled pharmacokinetic study, that the abnormal result was the consequence of the use of the therapeutic inhaled dose up to the maximum indicated above.

A similar rule applies since 1.1.2011 for salbutamol (up to 1600 micrograms / day). The limit in urine is 1000 ng / mL.

Thus, from 2012, inhaled salbutamol, salmeterol and formoterol and inhaled corticosteroids to treat asthma, subject to the limits, are no longer on the Prohibited List. All other beta-2-agonist (eg terbutaline, fenoterol) still require a Therapeutic Use Exemption.

Nicotine in the monitoring program

Through the Monitoring Program WADA studies and analyzes substances which are not on the Prohibited List. With the resulting data it is possible to check, if certain substances are misused. One example is pseudoephedrine, that after findings in the monitoring program was put back in the Prohibted List in 2010.

In the 2012 Monitoring Program e.g. Nicotine, hydrocodone and tramadol are considered, to provide evidence of possible abuse trends.

Chemical and physical manipulation

The point M 2.2. the Prohibited List was clarified by specifying a time and now reads:

2. Intravenous infusions and/or injections of more than 50 mL per 6 hour period are prohibited except for those legitimately received in the course of hospital admissions or clinical investigations.

New Drug Datebase

Since 01/01/2012 the online Drug Datebase of the NADA Austria was reissued, so that is, along with known query by drug name, also possible to search for the ingredients of the medication. In addition, the application was processed optically better. An app for mobile devices is planned.

Information requirements for doctor visit

Please continue to check with a doctor or hospital visits, that you are an athlete and apply to the anti-doping regulations. The doctor must then ensure that no prohibited substances will be administered or prohibited methods are applied to you. The admissibility of a form of treatment can be queried about our Drug Database.

Application criteria for Therapeutic Use Exemptions

If any treatment with prohibited substances or prohibited methods is needed, a request for a Therapeutic Use Exemption musst be filed. Here you will find some of the Link open in a new windowWADA application criteria for the most common chronic diseases. Please inform in advance about the requirements for the application or the conditions for approval.
